Sailing Association – Sailing Instructions

Rules
The Regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing. (ISAF)

Notice to Competitors
Notices to the competitors will be posted on the official notice board in the clubhouse.

Changes to sailing
instructions
Any change to the sailing instructions will be posted before 10.00am.on the day.

Schedule of races and briefing
Briefing will be at 10.00am. The first race will at 11.00am the remaining races will be announced after the first race.

Courses
The race officer will indicate courses on a numbered board. The number of the buoys, the order and direction they are to be rounded and the number of laps will be specified.

The Start
6.1 Starting line (committee boat)
The starting line will be the line made by joining the flag mast of the committee boat with the staff of the outer distance mark carrying the yellow flag. The inner limit mark will carry a yellow flag and boats must not pass between it and the committee boat at any time.
6.2 Starting line (shore)
The starting line will be the line made by joining the flag mast on shore with a mark of the coarse. There may be an inner limit mark that will carry a yellow flag and boats must not pass between it and the shore at any time.

Races will be started as
follows: -
Starting signals
(one sound signal at each stage)
The Warning Signal 5 minutes before the start the Class Flag will be raised to full mast + sound signal.
The Preparatory Signal 4 minutes before the start the Preparatory Flag will be raised to full mast + sound signal.
1 minute warning 1 minute before start the Preparatory flag is lowered + sound signal.
The Starting Signal Class flag will be lowered + sound signal.
6.4 Recalls
In the event of a boat being over the starting line at the start, one sound signal will made and the x flag will be raised. The signals shall remain until all offending boats have re-crossed the line or until all or until such times as it becomes obvious that the offending boats do not intend to re-cross the line. For a general recall two sound signals will be made and the first substitute (yellow triangle with blue border upper and lower edges) will be hoisted. The warning signal for the restart will be made at the race officer's discretion.

The Finish
7.1 Finish line (committee
boat)
The finish line will be a line between the flag mast of the committee boat and a mark of the course or the committee boat and a distance marker that carries a yellow flag. The committee boat will fly a class flag at half-mast to indicate it is on station and forms the end of the finish line.
7.2 Finish line (Shore)
The finish line will be a line between the flag mast on shore and a mark of the course. The flag mast will fly a class flag at half-mast to indicate it forms one end of the finish line.
8 Shortened courses
8.1 A shortened course will be indicated by 2 sound signals and the display of code flag S on the committee boat
8.2 The race may be shortened at any mark of the course by using a committee boat with its flag mast forming one end of the line and the mark the other
9 Time limit
At the discretion of the race officer a boat may be deemed retired if it is over 30 minutes behind the lead boat finishing.

Scoring
The scoring system will be the low point system. 1st =1; 2nd=2; 3rd=3 and so on, as described by ISAF A7. Series ties will be decided as described by ISAF A8
Protests must be made in writing and submitted within 1 hour of the finishing time of the last yacht in the last race of the day.
The two turns penalty as outlined in section 44.2 of the ISAF rules apply
Abandonment of a race will
be indicated by hoisting code flag 'N' accompanied by three sound signals.
Should the start of any
race need to be postponed, the answering pennant will be shown with two sound signals. The postponement shall end with the lowering of
the answering pennant with one sound
signal.
All helmsmen and crew must, when racing, wear personal buoyancy. A wet or dry suit is not considered adequate as personal buoyancy.
